Introducing God of Carnage

Greetings loyal theatre patrons! We are once again in preparation for our fall show. We are incredibly excited to bring God of Carnage by Yasmina Reza, translated by Christopher Hampton, to the stage in the Magic Valley.

God of Carnage is described as "a comedy about manners...without the manners." which is exactly what happens in the show. 2 couples get together to discuss an altercation between their eleven-year-old sons. The purpose of the discussion is to practice "the art of co-existence." The intention is to keep it free of emotions and behave as people in a civilized society do. What actually happens is nothing short of brilliant insight into human interaction. We learn, through the sharp dialogue, that each couple has their issues and that none of them really have an idea on how to keep emotion out of it. The audience gets to see several different facets of the interaction, not all of them courteous, kind or effective.

We have been looking at this show for several years. It felt right to bring it to the stage this year. We are looking at what is going on around the world right now and it seems like civility is not a high priority. Despite many individual efforts to maintain tolerance and civility, people seem to struggle at mastering the art of co-existence. Not all interaction is marked with kindness, courtesy or effectiveness.

Our blog for this show will explore the intricacies of these human interactions. All four cast members, Jud Harmon, Amy West Chambers, Seve Isaacs and Tamara Harmon, will be answering a set of questions that all begin with: "What Happens When..." We will be exploring the questions both as ourselves and our characters. We will be sharing what insights we have as we think about it.

We hope you enjoy the blog and we hope you come see the show.  Performance dates are September 15, 16, and 17, 2016 at 7:30 pm. We will do one matinee Saturday September 17 at 2:00 pm. All performances will be at the CSI Fine Arts Center. Tickets are only $10 and can be purchased at the CSI Box office or online. There is a link on this blog to the website to purchase tickets. There is a $1.00 fee to purchase tickets online which covers the cost of mailing them to you if you'd like.
